Learning to Sail
Sailing is a sport that everyone can learn and enjoy. Sails can be our wings to freedom. They can take us in search of adventure, and far away from the telephone, TV, and distractions of everyday, nine-to-five life.
Our program of instruction can teach you more in a week than you might learn in several years of sailing on your own. Come join us and learn to sail on cruising sailboats with instructors who want you to enjoy sailing as much as they do. Our belief is that safe sailing is fun sailing.
Oriental's School of Sailing is North Carolina's oldest sailing school. Our program is based on the concept that a thorough understanding of sailboats and how to handle them sensibly and safely is what makes sailing fun. The program and techniques we teach are second to none. Our playground, the Neuse River, is both beautiful and challenging. It offers some of the finest sailing on the East Coast.
Learn to sail this year with Oriental's School of Sailing and let the joy of sailing become a part of you.
"I just wanted to tell all of you how much I enjoyed the school. I had a great time and really learned a lot. You all did a very good job and I have told everyone who has asked me that you did" Fletcher Green, Alumni 2000
"Thank you so much for a great week. Not only was it educational and informative but is was definitely relaxing and fun. I honestly do feel that I have more confidence in what I am doing"
Marge Dales, Alumni 2000"Just wanted to let you know how much I learned last week in the sailing course and how much I enjoyed it. I was a bit concerned at the beginning of the week knowing I had no experience....the concern however, was unfounded as the class accommodated everyone without making concessions"
David Neter, Alumni 2000"I want to tell you again how much we enjoyed the sailing school. Your instruction, positive way and hands on practice make the week very special"
Judith Smith, Alumni 2000
Safe and enjoyable sailing is the result of doing a lot of little things correctly. We offer a comprehensive learning experience that will give beginners and novice sailors the skills to bareboat charter or to confidently handle their own boats in coastal waters.
The course is a good combination of classroom and on the water instruction. We emphasize hands-on experience to help you develop your skills and confidence. Some of the subjects covered are:
Sounds like a lot of work...well, it is, and it will also be one of the most fun vacations you ever had. The course is offered two ways for your convenience. Five days, Monday thru Friday with a new class beginning every Monday. Or you may choose our weekend series, made up of Saturday and Sunday over three consecutive weekends. Our sailing season begins the first week of April and goes through the last week of October.
