Kayaking CompanionFun in the Sun...Canoeists & Kayakers

The Fourth Annual Pamlico Paddle
Saturday, May 13th at 9 A.M. Oyster Creek, Lowland, NC
Was A Success!

One of our most beautiful paddling venues was chosen for this year's paddle - unspoiled Oyster Creek and surrounding waters on Goose Creek Island. You can find it on the Northern Guide in our paddle guide series. Kayaking in Pamlico County

We will also celebrate the publication of the third in our series of five paddle guides, made possible by a second "Adopt-A-Trails" grant from the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation. It will describe paddle trails from the Bay River, including Spring and Lower Broad Creeks, down through Oriental.
Activities this year included guided tours of Oyster Creek and surrounding creeks, and Mouse Harbor, for canoeists and kayakers of all levels in the morning, followed by a sumptuous lunch served by the Goose Creek Island Community Services Club. A full house at the launch site!
Firsts this year included guides trained in the rich history of the paddle area, T-shirts for all participants, and, during the afternoon, a 3 ½ mile race for experienced kayakers, and sheltered, 2-mile races for less accomplished kayakers and all canoeists, with prizes awarded for the top- three placers in each race.

Tours will began at 9 AM Please remember that each participant must wear an approved life jacket at all times on the water, and that the coast guard requires each boat to carry an audible signaling device. A police whistle will suffice Hydro Therapy

If you would like to use this site: Take route 55 to Bayboro and turn left on route 304 just after the courthouse. Go 14.6 miles on 304, and turn left on to route 1230 (Lowland Rd.). Go 4.2 miles on 1230 and turn right on to 1234 (Horne Rd.). Go 0.8 miles on 1234 and turn right again on to 1235 (Oyster Creek Rd.). Another 0.8 miles takes you to the Pamlico Paddle.

While 40 intrepid paddlers had a blast during the nor'easter and flood at last year's event, this year we had fair and very warm weather and a stellar turnout of over a hundred paddlers!
