Celebrating the new Pamlico County Paddle-Trail Network & Guide
And the Bayboro Waterfront Canoe Access
Guided Tours of theUpper Bay River
for paddlers of all levels

This year’s Pamlico Paddle will be a special celebration. The first phase of our Pamlico County Paddler’s Guide will be published shortly with the help of a state, Adopt-A-Trail, grant. It will map and describe over 150 miles of paddle-trails from Goose Creek Island to the village of Oriental. The three brochures covering this area will be available at the Pamlico Paddle. Hydro Therapy
We will also celebrate construction of a special canoe access made possible, as well, by a state grant, at the new waterfront park in Bayboro, the site of this year’s paddle. The park will serve as home base for a variety of guided tours of the beautiful Bay River, from the pristine South Prong, to some of the larger tributaries. A genuine, down-east chicken-barbecue, provided by the Bayboro/Triangle Volunteer Fire Department, will cap the day’s activities.
There are a few primitive campsites available for those coming Friday evening. These must be reserved in advance. There are also overnight accommodations available at the Bayboro House Hotel (252-745-7270), and several inns in Oriental (www.pamlico-nc.com/lodging.htm). Rental canoes and kayaks are available from the Harbor Side in Oriental (252-249-1707), and from Island Rigs in Emerald Isle (252-247-7787).

To get to the Bayboro Waterfront Park, take state route 55 to Bayboro and turn on to route 304 just after the courthouse. Watch for signs and people directing paddle traffic.

Tours will begin at 9 AM, so paddlers should plan to arrive early enough to unload, park, and check their gear. Each participant must wear an approved life jacket at all times on the water, and the coast guard requires each boat to carry an audible signaling device. A police whistle will suffice.
