Listed below are some events, clubs and possible activities that are of interest in Pamlico County and Oriental

	The Croaker Festival - a weekend event closest to the 4th of July. Some 70 vendors are set up in and around Lou-Mac park on the River Neuse and they consist of a variety and plenty of food vendors and others that offer jewellery, furniture, art and so on. There is a section that caters to kids and where they can have fun. On the Saturday there is a parade at 10AM and a great fireworks display at 9PM. 	The Tarpon Tournament A popular fishing tournament held the last weekend in July to catch a famous fighting fish - The Tarpon. The winner with biggest catch gets a substantial prize. The tournament is run by the Rotary Club in Oriental - go to www.orientalrotary.com for more details.
	The Oriental Cup Regatta The Oriental Cup Regatta - the Bill Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund. This regatta started in 1989 in memory of Bill Harris the popular owner of the Oriental Marina. A weekend of music, dinner and dancing on the deck of the marina's Tiki Bar. The regatta is on the Saturday and the Sunday sees the bloody Maries from sponsor NYRA, the award of the scholarship to the winning student and the regatta trophies. 	The Second Weekend in December highlights the The Spirit of Christmas in Oriental The whole town celebrates the holiday season beginning with a parade down streets lit with luminarios and farrolitos heralding the arrival of Santa followed by 'open-house' in all of the retail businesses with live entertainment and refreshments. New Year's Eve The Dragon Run in Oriental Joe Cox and friends saw the dragon first in the sixties. The dragon makes it's yearly appearance on New Year's Eve. He/she comes out just after dark, lumbering down Hodges street as children (of all ages) bang pots to drive off evil spirits and bring in the new year. A second running of the dragon occurs closer to midnight. Come touch the dragon for luck as it makes its annual appearance in the town. Fishing The large shrimp boats in the harbor are your first clue: the fishing is good here by boat or on shore. The harbor and local boat ramps provide easy access to the river and the sounds for all the sport fishing you can handle. Want to find the best spots? Charter one of the award winning local guides. Golf There are golf courses within a few minutes/miles from anywhere in Pamlico County. These excellent courses are a golfer's secret. They are never very crowded. Paddlers can find the supplies they need in Oriental. You can rent a canoe or kayak there as well. Also in Oriental there is a sailing school which offers five day comprehensive courses.
