New Year's Eve The Dragon Run in Oriental
Joe Cox and friends saw the dragon first in the sixties. The dragon makes it's yearly appearance on New Year's Eve.  He/she comes out just after dark, lumbering down Hodges street as children (of all ages) bang pots to drive off evil spirits and bring in the new year. A second running of the dragon occurs closer to midnight. Come touch the dragon for luck as it makes its annual appearance in the town.

Fishing
The large shrimp boats in the harbor are your first clue: the fishing is good here by boat or on shore. The harbor and local boat ramps provide easy access to the river and the sounds for all the sport fishing you can handle. Want to find the best spots? Charter one of the award winning local guides.
