S.S. ORIENTAL
A poster depicting the vessel from which Oriental "the sailing capital of North Carolina"derived its name. This ship ran aground and was lost in May,1863 at Bodie Island,Cape Hatteras , N.C. while in Federal service.
The 17"x 11" poster reproduced from an original painting by Ashton Whipple is available for $25.00 plus $2.50 for shipping and handling. Total $27.50 (North Carolina residents add $1.65 for sales tax).
It is also available framed in an attractive white designer metal molding with a dark blue mat (20 1/4"x15 5/8") for $75.00 plus $19.95 for shipping and handling. Janet Link is originally from Raleigh, NC and is a graduate of Meredith College. During her time at Meredith she joined its studio art program in Paris where she studied traditional European painting and drawing techniques under Ben Long. Her relationship with Long continued over subsequent years as a studio assistant and on his fresco project for NationsBank in Charlotte. Janet's work has steadily been collected over the years by private collectors and corporations alike. She has had several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group and juried shows. Outside of her fine art, Janet takes a keen interest in various craft and artisanal work. She is a self taught bookbinder and calligrapher and has studied the medieval techniques of manuscript illumination. She has combined all of her talents in several commissions for full books. Currently Janet lives with her husband in Oriental, NC. She splits her time between painting and drawing the beautiful landscape around her and making books and other pretty things in her studio. |
